If you have periodontitis, Dr. Bethaney B. Brenner may recommend gum surgery. Our dentist uses the PerioLaseĀ® to perform the LANAPā¢ procedure, which is a laser periodontal surgery. The LANAP procedure is a way to get rid of infections and close periodontal pockets in the gums. The PerioLase laser fiber, which is only about as wide as three hairs, is inserted between the gums and your tooth, where it removes the bacteria and plaque that cause gum disease. The laser is then used to reattach your gums to your teeth, closing the periodontal pockets. This procedure is usually painless.
