A dental crown is a tooth-shaped covering that is custom made to cover the entire visible part of the tooth. When a patient needs the shape, size, strength and appearance of a tooth restored she may recommend a dental crown. Dental crowns are used for the following purposes:
To place a dental crown, our dentist will first remove a small amount of tooth enamel to allow room for the crown in your mouth. An impression of the tooth and the nearby teeth are made so that a dental crown can be constructed. Our dentist will place a temporary crown while your permanent crown is being prepared. When your permanent dental crown is complete, our dentist will remove the temporary crown. Your dental crown is placed in your mouth to check the fit. After any necessary adjustments are made, our dentist will permanently cement the crown in place.
